Two History Stops
Frontier Army Museum
The museum preserves artifacts associated with the Frontier Army, Fort Leavenworth and Army education. Choose it for exhibits that explain military life and the post's changing role. Contact the museum about hours or a group visit before making plans. Source: U.S. Army museum guide.
Buffalo Soldier Commemorative Area
The Buffalo Soldier Monument was dedicated in 1992. The surrounding memorial area honors African American units and individuals. Choose it for commemorative history, or use the Army's virtual tour when an on-post visit isn't practical. Sources: Army post history and memorial virtual tour.
Arrange Entry Before You Travel
Civilian visits depend on current installation access requirements. Review the Army's visitor registration and identification instructions, or contact the Visitor Control Center at 913-684-3600. Approval to attend an event and permission to enter the post are separate planning questions. Source: official visitor access rules.
The Army recommends online visitor registration when possible, but registration can't be completed more than 10 days before a visit. The online process requires a valid U.S. passport or REAL ID-compliant driver's license. Present the same ID at the gate. Contact the Visitor Control Center if you need another access process. Drivers should have current vehicle registration and proof of insurance ready, along with required passenger identification. Check the post's status, museum opening and gate arrangements together before traveling. Sources: gate information and Army visitor overview.
Seasonal Community Traditions
Army MWR identifies July Fourth and Salute to the Union, an annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, and a Holiday Concert among the post's community traditions. Summer and holiday-season programs have different venues and participation rules. Confirm the current schedule and eligibility before arranging travel. Source: Fort Leavenworth MWR event program.
For spring or other visits, use the MWR calendar and museum program information. A recreation listing should be checked for audience, registration and post-access requirements.
