From Farming Community to City

Pleasant Valley became a fourth-class city on January 14, 1963. City Hall and the police department moved to the Royal Street site in 2000. These dates mark separate stages in the community's growth, rather than competing founding dates. Pleasant Valley's beginnings.

Choosing Between the Two Parks
Hanson Park, behind City Hall at 6500 Royal Street, has the city's two picnic shelters. It's the place to consider for a family gathering or a picnic that needs reserved space. City parks and reservations.
Valley Park, along South Sobbie Road, has a concrete walking trail and benches. Choose it for a walk rather than a shelter-based party. Valley Park information.
Shelter reservations go through City Hall. Residents can reserve a shelter without a rental charge; nonresidents pay a fee. Call City Hall at 816-781-3996 to request a form, or reserve in person. Return the form and any required payment promptly. This is a City Hall booking process, so a phone inquiry alone shouldn't be treated as a completed reservation. Shelter booking instructions.
City park hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week. A concrete path provides a defined walking surface at Valley Park, but the city doesn't publish enough detail to establish the whole route's wheelchair access. Ask about your specific needs before choosing a route. Park hours and facilities.
Community Events and Seasonal Plans
Day in the Park brings a community gathering to Hanson Park. The city has announced warm-weather editions, but dates can change. Use the parks page for the next event rather than assuming a fixed weekend.
Citywide garage sales have also appeared in the city's summer newsletter. Check the next announcement for dates and participating addresses. City summer newsletter.
For holiday plans, read the city's news page for community Christmas programs. Confirm the holiday program before arranging a visit; the city hasn't established a fixed recurring date.
Pleasant Valley's events are smaller community programs. For an outing in any season, build your plan around the parks and add a city event only after confirming its schedule.
